Joseph's character was amazing. He was caring, gentle with children, generous, and the first to show up when family or friends needed help. On Saturday morning, May 20, 2006 it was a sunny morning camping. Joseph had made his famous sausage biscuits and gravy then went out of a ride on his quad motorcycle which he had a great passion for. In a blink of an eye things turned from joy to tragedy. He was thrown from the quad and received a traumatic brain injury. Sadly he never regained consciousness and we were faced with a decision about organ donation. Together, his family & friends agreed to donate his organs was in his character and would have been his wish. Secondly, prior to his death our family experienced being a recipient family when our nephew/cousin received a kidney. So the miracle of donation was very important to us and we realized that Joseph's last gifts on this earth would help us cope with his death. The power of one gift saved four lives! One of the most powerful connections a donor family can have is the healing of one recipient's health and the possibility of looking into the future. While they were healing physically, we were healing mentally. The continual connection with Donate Life Today has inspired and uplifted us when we needed it.
